Welcome!

October 2002
issue of
Under The Shadow of His Wing

October is here and the leaves are in brilliant display!  As I said last month,Autumn is my favorite time of year.  It brings change, but I feel that we need to look at change from the Lord's perspective and welcome it with open arms and great anticipation.  Autumn also ushers in wonderful times of family holidays and joyous celebrations.  But October can also bring confusion and guilt to many believers in the Messiah.  I think this is one time of year when our faith and our convictions are tested and singled out more than any other.  What am I talking about?  Halloween.

What parent doesn't want their child to be in on the fun?  Who wouldn't love to see their child dressed up as their favorite superhero or storybook character?  And who among us wouldn't just enjoy letting their hair down and getting their hands on some of that candy?  On the surface the answers to these questions seem simple and insignificant in the grand scheme of things.  But is it really simple?  Is Halloween really as innocent as many, including Christians, would like to believe?  Just as with any other area of our lives, we need to go to the Word of God to find the answers to these questions.  And rather than reinvent the wheel, we are pleased to have several excellent articles and resources available for you this month from Koinonia House Online.  All we ask is that you take your questions and concerns before the Lord, and earnestly seek Him and His will in this matter.

From personal experience, we know that the enemy of our souls will stop at nothing to hurt and destroy our lives.  He is crafty and his offers are seductive.  It is up to each one of us to examine our hearts, our motives, and our actions for any area that may lend itself to error or that may provide access for the enemy.  We pray that in these times of great distress you would seek out the One who is Truth, that nothing would be able to keep you from His peace or the wonderful treasures the Lord God has in store for you.

We'd also like to thank all of you who have taken time out of your busy schedules to send us words of encouragement!  It's always nice to know that the Lord is using us to touch the hearts of our readers.

It is our sincere prayer that as you spend time here you will experience the Love of God and allow Him to minister to your every need, bringing you a little closer to Him.

"Now the brethren at once sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea; and when they arrived, they entered the synagogue of the Jews. Now these [Jews] were better disposed and more noble than those in Thessalonica, for the were entirely ready and accepted and welcomed the message [concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] with inclination of mind and eagerness, searching and examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." -- Acts 17:10-11 (Amplified)

It is our continued hope that the articles here will inspire you to be as the believers in Beroea - search and examine the Scriptures daily to see if these things are so!
